Björn Halldórsson is an Icelandic writer. He studied English and American literature at the University of East-Anglia and holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Glasgow. A frequent panellist and moderator, e.g. at the Reykjavík International Literary Festival and the PEN World Voices Festival in New York, his first book, Smáglæpir (Misdemeanours), a short story collection, was awarded the Icelandic Literature Centre’s Grassroots Grant in 2016. His short stories have been published by literary journals in Iceland and the UK and have also appeared in translation in English, German, Italian, and Hebrew. His first book, a short story collection titled Smáglæpir (“Misdemeanours”), was published in 2017. His first novel Stol (At a Loss), a father-and-son road novel set in the shadow of the father’s imminent passing from a personality-altering brain tumour, was published to strong reviews in 2021 and was nominated for a minor prize. His second novel, Ókunnugt fólk (Persons Unknown), a family saga that applies stream-of-consciousness prose for a Rashomon-like inquisition about the characters’ mutual history, is to be published by Icelandic publisher Forlagið in 2026. He is represented by the Reykjavík Literary Agency (RLA).
